Why Support GOCCFA?

The commercial fishing industry in the Gulf of Carpentaria is a significant economic driver to regional communities throughout the region, providing jobs and supporting a network of businesses. By supporting GOCCFA, your business contributes to:

Eligibility

Supporting Business Membership is open to businesses with an Australian Business Number (ABN) operating in or around the Gulf of Carpentaria that provide goods or services to the commercial fishing industry. Eligible businesses include, but are not limited to;

  • Secondary Businesses (directly supporting fishing operations):
    • Fishing equipment suppliers
    • Boat repair and maintenance services
    • Ice and fuel providers
    • Seafood processors and wholesalers
    • Transport and logistics companies serving the fishing industry
  • Tertiary Businesses (supporting secondary businesses or the fishing community):
    • Financial institutions (banks, insurance companies)
    • Legal and accounting firms
    • Marketing and advertising agencies
    • Hospitality and tourism businesses benefiting from the fishing industry
    • Educational institutions offering training for the fishing industry

    • Your business will be featured in the GOCCFA online members directory, increasing visibility among commercial fishers seeking your services.

Membership Fees (GST Inclusive)

Membership fees are tiered based on the business’s annual turnover related to the fishing industry, ensuring accessibility for businesses of all sizes. 


Turnover Range - Annual Fee

Up to $250,000 - $TBA

$250,001 – $500,000 - $TBA

$500,001 – $1,000,000 - $TBA

$1,000,001 & over - $TBA

How Membership Fees Are Used

Membership fees are a critical source of funding for GOCCFA’s activities, ensuring the association can effectively represent and support the commercial fishing industry. Fees are allocated to:

  • Advocacy and Lobbying (40%): Representing industry interests in regulatory and policy discussions.
  • Research and Development (30%): Supporting initiatives to improve sustainability, efficiency, and innovation in fishing practices.
  • Community Engagement (20%): Funding educational programs, community events, and outreach to promote the fishing industry’s value, including first nation fishers.
  • Administrative Costs (10%): Covering operational expenses, including staff, website maintenance, and member services.

This transparent allocation ensures that your contribution directly supports the industry’s growth and resilience.

Application Process

To become a Supporting Business Member, follow these steps:

  1. Complete the Application: Fill out the membership application form available on the GOCCFA website (GOCCFA Website).
  2. Submit Documentation: Provide your ABN and a brief description of how your business supports the fishing industry.
  3. Pay the Fee: Submit the applicable membership fee based on your business’s turnover.
  4. Renewal: Membership must be renewed annually through the GOCCFA member portal.
